Reducing Workplace Injury and Illness
SAFEWork is the title of a public education campaign developed by the Workplace Health and Safety, Compensation Commission of Newfoundland & Labrador. It is focused on reducing the number of workplace accidents and occupational injury and illness.
The campaign’s goal is to reduce the incidence of injury and illness in the workplace by developing a culture where all stakeholders take responsibility for health and safety. This will be demonstrated through positive attitudes and behaviours.
A cornerstone of the SAFEWork initiative is a public awareness campaign using television, radio, the Internet and print media. The campaign promotes a four-step SAFE model that focuses on the safety concept of risk management – avoiding injury and illness. By identifying the need to think before acting, the model will help change behaviours that will lead to a safer way, everyday in the workplace.
The forms and checklists located in the "Related Documents" are samples which may be used by workplaces to help build a health and safety culture in their workplace. These are not intended as complete lists. The best safety practices for an individual workplace are ones that are developed keeping in mind the specific needs of the workplace.
