The winners of the 2014 video contest in the junior and senior high category are Bethany Hynes, Erin Kenny and Sarah Woodford of Villanova Junior High in Manuels. The students share a prize of $1,000 for their efforts.
The winner of the video contest in the 18-24 year-old post-secondary category is Erin McCarthy, College of the North Atlantic, St. John’s. She also receives $1,000.
Two radio ads tied for first place. The winning ads were submitted by Zachary O’Neill of Exploits Valley High in Grand Falls-Windsor, who receives $1,000, and Ryan Squires, Niall Hingston, Alex Bugden and Ryan McDonald of Gros Morne Academy in Rocky Harbour, who will share $1,000. The winning radio ads will be re-recorded and aired on radio stations throughout the province as part of the Commission’s Safe Work advertising campaign.
Viewer’s Choice Award
As part of the annual video contest, the top 10 entries selected by the judges were entered into a Viewers’ Choice competition. The general public could vote online via Facebook for their favourite. The winning entry was created by Radhika Verma, Davis Fowlow, and Alyssa LeRoy of Stephenville Middle School, Stephenville. The Viewer’s Choice prize is $500.
