The key to a successful return-to-work program is a partnership among workers, employers, health care providers and the Commission.

The health care professional’s role is not only to diagnose and treat the illness or injury, but to advise and support the injured worker, to communicate with the injured worker, the employer and the Commission, and to collaborate with other health care professionals. We value that partnership in providing injured workers with a safe and early return to the most productive employment possible. We provide services and treatments based on the type of injury sustained, the reports received from health care providers and standard health care practices in Canada. The Commission will cover health care services to an injured worker where, in its opinion, the service is appropriate for the worker's compensable injury.

Some examples of health care services covered by the Commission include:

  • services rendered by health care providers (such as physicians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and chiropractors) whose professional practices are regulated in and for Newfoundland and Labrador;
  • services provided by hospitals and other health care facilities;
  • prescription drugs;
  • assistive devices and prostheses;
  • modifications to home or vehicle to assist independent living;
  • essential transportation to obtain health care; and
  • measures to improve the quality of life of severely impaired workers.

Are you a new health care provider or vendor?

You will need a vendor number to invoice the Commission for services provided to injured workers. To request a vendor number, telephone 709-778-1355.

All vendors must be registered with the Commission and your assessment account must be in good standing (no money owed). If your account is overdue, your invoice payment may be withheld and applied to your overdue assessment balance.

To contact the Health Care Services division, phone: 1-800-563-9000, ext. 1108 or (709)-778-1108.
